You can now adopt a grapevine at Gisborne Peak Winery and receive lots of special privileges, discounts and opportunities for involvement. The program is fun and educational. Our Adoptive Parents are invited to 'Hands-on' Days in the vineyard so they can learn more about the 'vine-to-wine' process. A 25% discount on wines purchased is good for the two years of the adoption. And there are special days for Adoptive Parents at the vineyard too.
The History of Adopt-a-Vine™
Adopt-a-Vine was started in 2004 by Bob & Barbara Nixon at their Gisborne Peak Winery in Australia, under the trade name ‘MyVine’. Bob & Barbara recognized that people were interested in the how’s and the why’s of wine, as much as in the taste of wine. In fact they saw the opportunity to take people into the vineyard at critical times of the year so they could appreciate the vine-to-wine process.
Over the years people have adopted vines because they want to learn and to have a sense of being involved in the seasonal cycles of a vineyard even though they were not vignerons themselves.
The program has grown over the years to a point where enquiries are coming from around the world for membership. Adopt-a-Vine has now expanded to unite people and vines throughout the world. From little things, big things grow.
You will receive an Adoption Kit that has an Adoption Certificate in it (suitable for framing) and states the name of the Adoptive Parent, the varietal of vine, the row number, plant number and date of adoption. It also has a full colour picture of your vine with your personalised hang-tag.
The vine is tagged with a personalised hang-tag bearing the name of the owner and date of adoption. Adoptive owners will receive an Adoption Certificate stating the variety of vine and date of adoption and a vineyard map showing the exact location of the vine. There are three packages to choose from starting at only $99.00 for the 2-year adoption.
Educational 'Hands-On' Days
Throughout the year you are invited to participate in season vineyard activities. In January there is the annual Canopy Management Day and Crop Estimation. At vintage (April-May) you are invited to pick grapes and to pick your vines grapes for the vintage. July brings the annual Pruning Day which shows you the theory of pruning - very transferable to your house bushes and shrubs. Then in December you are invited to decorate your vine for Christmas at the Annual Picnic in the Vines day, always the first Saturday of December.
Hands-On days are a fun learning activity and something not everyone experiences.
