Enter our world of wine, friendship, special atmosphere and seasonal vineyard activities.

We do things a bit differently at Gisborne Peak Winery. We pride ourselves on cellar door service like it used to be - warm and friendly and not too serious! The wines continually win awards. All single-vineyard, estate grown wines are from our Gisborne South property, 'Mawarra', located in the cool climate Macedon Ranges Wine Region. All wines are served by the glass or bottle and the new Sparkling Pinot Noir is to die for! Whatever the season, whatever the reason, a visit to Gisborne Peak Winery is a must. Bob and Barbara Nixon invite you to visit the cellar door anytime. The winery is open 7-days from 11:00 a.m.

Sometimes words and pictures just aren't enough. There is nothing like a visit to our special corner of the world and we sincerely hope that you can visit us one day.

Our History

In 1976 the first 12 acres of the Mawarra Vineyard property was purchased, a windswept block of what was once part of a cattle property, with only eight living trees on it.

The first planting of grapes in 1978 was a hobby block of Sylvaner Riesling vines. Later these were grafted or replaced with Pinot Noir. This old block of Pinot is alongside the drive and car park along the entrance road to the cellar-door centre.

By 1980 the vineyard bug had got to vigneron Bob Nixon's imagination and the planting frenzy began. Bit by bit, the area has grown to now cover nearly 13.5 acres of what is now an 18-acre property through extra land being purchased adjoining the original block.

The Cellar Door at Gisborne Peak

The Cellar Door is especially popular at the winery with visitors meeting family and friends. We believe that food and wine are natural partners, so we have a small, but delicious menu featuring the wood-fired oven. Wood-fired pizzas are served every weekend and public holiday and sizzling prawns are also on the menu. Taster's Platters are served every day, and the pestos, cheese and sausages on them make a great accompaniment with the delicious wines. Espresso coffee and delicious cakes are also available daily. Check out the Cellar Door page for our menu and wine list. For those non-wine drinkers, beer is also served as well as soft-drinks.

The winery has gone from strength to strength. Starting with a small cellar door and some outside seating on the verandas and an open air deck, it now has a large marquee for group gatherings that is fully heated and has views over the lake. The open air deck is the most popular place to enjoy the views when the sun is shining, no matter which season it is. The verandas are fully enclosed with café blinds making them 'dress circle seating' all year round. Our new 'Fireside Room' offers additional seating by the warmth of the fire in winter or in the cool of the shade in summer.

The winery is fully wheelchair accessible.

Groups are welcome at Gisborne Peak Winery and we have a number of packages to suit many needs. Check out our Cellar Door for a listing of our Group Packages.
